Csárdás Dance Company to Perform in Budapest!

Ohio's Csárdás Dance Company, under the direction of Richard Graber, has been invited to perform in Budapest, Hungary. The personal invitation from S?dor and B?ke T??, (former Artistic Directors to the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and Founders/Directors of Tim? Folklor in Budapest), comes on the eve of a renovation project of the Pesti Vigad? one of the most prestigious theaters in Budapest. The "Holiday Gala Performance" on December 17, 2003, at 7 P.M. will be the final performance in the venue before the two year renovation project begins. Click here: Pesti Vigad?/A>

Csárdás and T?? Folklor have remained in close contact since Csárdás director Graber commissioned a work by the world renown T?? duo in 1998; a work which Csárdás features in it's current repertoire.

The Ohio Arts Council help fund this project with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. Additional support is from the Edward R &Jean Geis Stell Foundation.

Members of the company feel the mission of promoting the appreciation of the ethnic arts in Ohio and the region will be strengthened by this visit, as they network and find renewed energy to channel toward their work with Csárdás. Csárdás will be celebrating ten years in 2004. The ensemble will be the sole representation from the USA, with additional invitees from England, Japan as well as various other ensembles from across Hungary.

Csárdás is Ohio's and the region's only nonprofit professional dance company presenting traditional and contemporary works stemming from Hungarian heritage. Founded by Richard Graber in 1994, the dance company has presented a repertoire that features a wide range of dance dialects and styles. The Company preserves the brilliant splendor of folk elements meshed with contemporary choreography creating a rich and exciting cultural experience.

Csárdás Dance Company is the only dance company of its kind in the United States supporting itself through performance opportunities, children's programs and offering course studies in almost a dozen separate dance disciplines at it's school of dance, the Movement Arts Center.
