Csárdás
Youth Ensemble
"The children stole the show with their shining
faces and natural charm!"
- Wilma Salisbury, The Plain Dealer
The Csárdás Youth Ensemble is a unique program that celebrates
the universal joys of tradition through dance. The children perform solo or in
conjunction with Csárdás Dance Company's main-stage performances. The program
has proven to be a wonderful experience for youth performers as they learn about
an exciting culture, develop their coordination skills, meet other children and
experience performing at an early age.
A period of 3 months of Hungarian
dance instruction is strongly encouraged at the school of Csárdás, the Movement
Arts Center (MAC) in Medina, with Director, Richard Graber. (This is mandatory
for those with no prior dance experience. Auditions are possible and are
encouraged periodically for assessment) There is a registration fee of $20 and
monthly tuition of $47.25. (Refer to MAC policies) At the conclusion of the 3
months, a child may be considered for the youth ensemble. Upon successfully
completing the audition process, the child will be required to attend all
scheduled rehearsals. Parents/guardians of the children will be required to join
the MAC FRIENDS program, which has an annual membership fee of $25, where they
plan events and administer various fundraising activities for the
ensemble.
Interested children should be at least eight (8) years of age.
Hungarian speaking or being of Hungarian descent is NOT mandatory.
ONCE ACCEPTED INTO THE PERFORMING COMPANY:
Csárdás Dance Company Youth Ensemble rehearsals are demanding
and run in a disciplined manner. Rehearsals are Sundays at 5 P.M. or as
scheduled and are held at the Movement Arts Center located at 3609 Medina Road
in Medina, Ohio. Parents are permitted to periodically observe rehearsals. If a
child is unable to attend a rehearsal, a phone call is expected from the parent
or guardian prior to the scheduled rehearsal. It should be understood that
repeat tardiness and missing rehearsals will jeopardize your child's place in
choreography.
It should be understood that Csárdás Dance Company's
choreography, steps, musical arrangements, or costumes, are not to be used
without the written permission of the Directorship. Company Directorship retains
all artistic and administrative control over all company-related
activities/performances, or over any event that could be construed to represent
Csárdás.
The fee structure for accepted members into the ensemble are as
follows:
Child 1: $30/month (paid before the 7th of each month)
Child 2:
$25/month (same family)
This fee structure will be adhered to every month
the Csárdás Youth Ensemble will be rehearsing. Because of performance
schedules, it is not always feasible to have 4 rehearsals a month; however, the
fee structure will still apply. It should also be noted that there are no
refunds for missed rehearsals.
Past Csárdás Youth Ensemble performances have included Kent State University, Cleveland Museum of Art, Kodály Music Educators Conference - Cleveland, Blossom Music Center, The Cleveland PlayHouse, Middfest International (Cincinnati), Wagnall's Memorial (Columbus), Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College, Playhouse Square, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Music Hall, Trinity Cathedral, Early Childhood Music Program (a program by Chet-Yeng Loong, Ph.D. of Music at Baldwin Wallace College,) Lorain Palace Civic Center as well as countless schools throughout Ohio.
We're looking forward to working with your
children!
